Serenity Counseling is located in Florence, Alabama and provides individual and group counseling services to children (as young as 3), adolescents, and adults.
Serenity Counseling offers a unique, confidential, and peaceful counseling experience. Counseling sessions can occur in the office, or we can step outside and have a session under a willow tree, beside the creek, or in the arena.

Meet Our Staff
Micaela is from Muscle Shoals, Alabama and is 2013 honors graduate of Muscle Shoals High School. She is currently enrolled in an Animal Assisted Therapy Program through the Animal Behavioral Institute out of North Carolina. Upon graduating Micaela will begin using the designation CAATP (Certified Animal Assisted Therapy Professional). While Micaela plans to work primarily with horses, she will be certified to work with a variety of animals including dogs and cats. Micaela also plans to become certified through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) as an Equine Specialist.
Micaela has been working with horses since 2008 and has extensive experience working and training horses. She is experienced in reading and understanding a horses unique body language.
While she is passionate about helping people at all stages of life her dream its work with military service members suffering from PTSD, anxiety, depression, and even any type of physical disability they may have.
In her free time, Micaela enjoys spending time her family, being outdoors, shooting guns and bows, and taking walks.
Amy Thompson is a native of Florence, Al. She received her B.A in Sociology and Family Studies and her M.A in Community Counseling from the University of North Alabama. Amy is a Nationally Certified Counselor as well as an Associate Licensed Counselor through the state of Alabama. Amy is a certified Equine Assisted Psychotherapist through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). Amy is a member of the counseling honor society, Chi Sigma Iota.
Amy has experience working with children and adolescents who are victims of abuse, as well as individuals who are dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, self-harm, and children who are in foster care.
Amy is working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist and is able to offer these techniques in counseling sessions with children.
Amy currently resides in Killen, Alabama with her husband and two year old son. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, sewing, and cooking. Amy is currently writing a personal memoir entitled "The Journey to Finding My Beautiful."
*As an Associate Licensed Counselor, Amy is under the supervision of Dwight Wilson, LPC-S, RPT-S. This allows her to consult with him regarding her cases to provide the best counseling services to her clients. Only situations are discussed, no names or personal information is disclosed.
For over 35 years Jane has worked in the animal training and care industry. From training dolphins for shows and education to horses for therapy and trail riding. She has been specializing full time in family pet dog training since 1999. Jane is a certified Equine Specialist through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association.
Jane founded Tao's first non kennel dog training and boarding facility. She explored how the environment played an important role on the animals, that is, shaping their behavior. She discovered her Circle® Training method by creating a small round pen to help her with strong dogs that needed to be worked together.
Jane currently runs her second private business in the state of Alabama.
In her free time, Jane continues to learn and enjoys working with many dogs and horses and their owners with the goal of training through compassion, kindness and clear communication.
